Photogrammetry - 3D Model and Point Cloud
Why do we use Aerial Photogrammetry and what advantages do we get compared to classic topography?
We perform a photogrammetric flight with the DJI Matrice 300 RTK drone, with the Zenmuse P1 35mm sensor, supported by the D-RTK2 high-precision GNSS mobile station.
We collect several checkpoints with the Emlid REACH RS2 GPS, along the entire terrain.
Once we process the aerial images and input the control points into the software, we get a 3D Model and Point Clouds that we can later work with and analyze the model.
Advantages of aerial photogrammetry over classic topography
The appearance and development of two new technological elements and the development of appropriate software allow a great advance in aerial photogrammetry with respect to classic topography.
These elements are:
- Appearance of drones
- Development of digital cameras
The drone allows working in both small and large areas, with many possibilities of height, sweeping, etc.
Improvements in digital cameras, such as increased pixels, allow for optimal definition and accuracy.
The combination of the two elements, Drone-Camera, offers us:
- Replace a plan with a high-quality photographic image that facilitates interpretation.
- Possibility of easy and manageable action compared to satellites, airplanes or helicopters
- Speed in the execution of the work
- Cost reduction of more than 50% in many cases
With this we can affirm that with aerial photogrammetry we have a topography of quality and at low cost.
